Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lincoln Woods Trailhead parking lot was full at 7:30am today. Not surprising given it’s the holiday weekend. Parking is allowed on the Kanc, but be mindful of the no parking areas.

Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only had to do the last two crossing due to using the Black Pond Bushwhack. Both crossings were fine - a little care needed not to submerge your boots, but overall still rock hoppable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are a number of blowdowns on Owls Head Path and Brutus Buckwhack. Nothing that can’t be stepped over or ducked under.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few pups out enjoying the day today.
Bugs
Bugs: Mostly only were a bother on Lincoln Woods Trail and Black Pond Trail. Bug spray didn’t seem to help.

Comments
Comments: Nothing major to report here. Took the Black Pond Bushwhack to avoid some of the water crossings. The remaining crossings posed no major issues. Opted to take the slide up to the summit. There’s a few spots on the slide with cairns to help you with picking the best route up. Views of Franconia Ridge were spectacular today.

Took Brutus Bushwhack on the descent. First time giving this route a try (we’ve descended the slide a few times before), and it proved to be a fine route. Only one section of the Brutus BW gave a little trouble - it looks like the bushwhack continues across a drainage [that is a herd path, not a bushwhack], but it actually stays to the right/straight down hugging the drainage.

Might recommend having short hiking boot gaiters, or a change of socks. There’s some fairly muddy sections on the Black Pond BW just after Black Pond and on Lincoln Brook Trail.

Another tip: take a few minutes after the hike to dip your feet in the river. Your feet will thank you immensely.
