| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Final 1/4 mile up one lane "primitive road" (USFS's wording) to trailhead parking area requires good clearance on your vehicle, especially after heavy rain. We had no trouble in an suv, but went slow thru mud puddles. |

| Comments: |
On way up, overcast, hot, humid and no breeze. At summit ledges, a breeze and eventually some clearing skies (locally) as we retraced our steps back to trailhead.
Only saw 5 other souls on our hike. One guy who probably came up from the other, southern trailhead, and a group of 4 who came up from Black Mtn trailhead, just as we did.
Really taken by views all around on ledges. Moosilauke remained in a cloud Bank, but lower peaks very visible.
Ledges' Amphilbolite mixed with quartz and what appears to be granitic folds was pretty cool stuff. Like most rock in NH, crustose lichens painted most of exposed ledge and erratics. Some reindeer lichen, old man's beard in wooden areas. Tiniest bit of British Soldier lichen struggling to gain a toe hold in rock niches, maybe not enough sustance in mainly mineral soil. Seen this before on Welch/Dickey. |
