|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All crossings were rock-hoppable. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Nicely maintained! We encountered maybe 2 easy step overs. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw several pups on the trail. They were able to find water in spots, though given the warmth, carrying extra for them is a good idea. While the Ammo trail can get steep and includes a short ladder, none of the dogs had issues, from what we could tell. |

It was a beautiful day up in the Presis and everyone knew it. Washington was getting socked in, but not for overly long periods of time. There was a lot of leap-frogging with groups during the day, or stopping to let hikers going in the opposite direction pass; these trails are very popular and for good reason! At the hut, we got a treat of chocolate chocolate chip cookies (with or without spice!). This fact elevated the trip for my two kids (10 and 11). A visit to one of the Lakes of the Clouds also made for a good time.
My son and I hiked the Ammo trail for the 3rd time in less than two years because we love it so much and know that pretty soon it will be very different due to the planned relocation. He wanted to be sure to get a farewell hike in before that happens. Certainly the way the trail is now, there is clearly erosion and some spots can be nerve-wracking given how seemingly easily a wrong step may land you into the Ammonoosuc river along which you travel. Still, the views provided by traveling along side it are gorgeous. |
