Comments: A FINE day in Henry's Woods with Zachary for some off trail delight. We rocketed up Greenleaf today, only seeing three people. Trail is in good shape and honestly I missed not being on this one, its a delight. Multiple crews of Alpine Stewards out all over the Ridge. Only about twenty hikers witnessed on the ridge. We opted for a southern drop in on the Lincoln Branch of the slide. This would have been better if I was wearing pants, and I truly believe dropping in from Truman Branch of the slide is better and easier - but I am stubborn. We found great scree-skiing down until the walls close in, eventually getting out of the brook bed and hopped into some insanely lovely woods. Exceptional moving. Hit Lincoln Brook Falls and decided to just go straight at the summit from here in lieu of taking the trails. Hiker math said it would be less distance and gain, but take about the same amount of time. It was actually shorter to do the menacing 1100 feet in 0.6 on all counts, hitting just south of the mini 4020 contour interval which we visited for purity sake. After this we traversed south along the ridge, bypassing the trail once again, to continue to the Ear's summit. Appears about five unique visitors in five years. A very tedious 0.4 then it mellowed out and moving got better, especially down by the 10-12 logging line. We used Lincoln Brook trail for a grand total of 50 feet today, hitting at the Black Pond Extension. This soon-to-be trail is better than many wilderness trails.
