| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We drove up to the log landing in the col between Sugarloaf and Bear Mtn (Bear Mtn Road via West Shore Rd) - a couple washouts but pretty easy going in a Wrangler. We usually park at the slightly lower lot, but only wanted to take Elwell so we drove all the way to col. Room for several cars to pulloff but, as usual, never saw anyone. |

Terrific quick after lunch hike. First 20 minutes climb 500' in less than a half mile - super-steep. Still super steep as I recall. We opted not to do the loop and come back down the Elwell Trail rather than the Bear Mtn Trail figuring this would be less steep... but it's still super-steep. I just love the ridge-walk - so wild-feeling!!!! |
