Comments
Comments: Lots of people out today, thankfully we all spread out eventually so we could set a solid pace. It's been years since we had hiked Ammo, last time in winter, so it was a bit like being a first timer! Usual rocks and roots up to Gem Pool, then the climbing began which just didn't seem as steep as I remembered. And I definitely didn't recall jow much ledge there is. Thankfully it was dry, so I only had a couple of boot slips due to the wet soles after the water crossing. Nothing too scary though I was glad not to be going back that way.

Lots of people at the hut and coming down from the summit which slowed us down til we hit Westside. Wow that is one rocky traverse! Just a grand tumble of medium sized rocks, very few of which offer a flat level surface. Some deep gaps between rocks that could be dangerous. Crossed under the trestle after 3 trains passed by, cool to see them disappear over the edge. Gulfside of course was more rock but smaller and a little easier. Jewell is Jewell, lots of larger rocks, mostly pretty solid, until treeline where you finally get a little break from rock pounding. Tedious but stll rather do that than come down Ammo.

All in all a great return to the Rockpile.
