Parking/Access Road Notes: Glen Ellis Scenic Area / trailhead parking is still closed for construction through October. We parked on 16 just south of it on the northbound side and walked 25-50 feet to the trail. Cars parked on both sides in this area by end of day, there were 2 cars at 8am.

Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Ellis River was easy to cross stepping and hopping between rocks with our trekking poles. 2 + dog. YMMV if you're short or uncomfortable hopping one or two medium rock gaps, though.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: a couple of blowdowns to step over, nothing major.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dog in our group did great w/ the trail - needed minor assistance at river and some steep parts. We didn't see any other dogs on trail today.
Bugs
Bugs: Minimal bugs - flies in a few areas, but we didn't get bothered much.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There is a blue-ish under armour shirt draped on a tree branch along on the ridge somewhere between D and A.

Comments
Comments: Nice dry trail today except for some very short sections with standing water or water that trickled down short sections of trail. River crossing at 8:30AM or so was fairly easy at the marked trail crossing by staying on the rocks. Minor mud was pretty common - between D and A there were some sections with more substantial mud, including right at the summit of A to get to the lookout. Most of the deeper mud was avoidable or you could step on rocks and branches, but I wouldn't say it was 100% avoidable if you stayed on trail. We took the polecat ski trail down, as did several of the hikers we encountered today. The rock was tedious at parts but all-in-all I think it was a win time-wise over trying to descend wildcat ridge trail - especially with a dog in the the group today. Our knees thanked us, and we made good time descending that way despite the longer distance and 2 mile road walk to our vehicle. Plenty of hikers on the trails today taking advantage of the clearest day in a week of stormy weather. Ellis Falls is well worth the quick detour before crossing the river!
