| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the summer lot just above the Lodge. I tested the shoulders before trusting the parking of a several ton machine (aka car). They were solid. If busy, I highly recommend the winter lot (just before the gate) as it’s just a 7 minute walk to the trailhead. In winter, Ravine Lodge Rd is plowed to the winter lot after storms. Park nose in to increase parking spaces. Ravine Lodge Rd is a good dirt road, passable by any vehicle. Free. No privy but I think the Lodge will let you use their bathrooms. I don’t know this for sure, but all signs say welcome. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All water crossings are either crossable on human made bridges or simple step overs. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
New blow downs on Carriage Rd Trail. One had been extensively hiked around. Others are climb overs, climb unders, or push throughers. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Great trails for dogs. In the alpine area, please leash them to keep them from trampling on vegetation. Of note, in all my treks here, the humans were doing waaaayy more trampling than the contentious dog owners. Just saying… |
|
| Bugs: |
No seems came out in lower elevations as the rain let up. But then the rain came back, so, bye suckhas!! |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Lots of items on the kiosk at the start of the trek. Glove, water bottle, stuff. |

Route:
Hurricane trl > Carriage Rd trl > Moose summit > Gorge Brook trl.
Hurricane Trail: not blazed. Very blatant footbed that is easy to follow. Rain run off making the normal trickles something to jump over. Some mud, some puddles. All very minor and shallow. I just walked thru them.
Carriage Rd Trail: not blazed. Easy to follow footbed. Very nice footing. All signs up, in good shape. Very little mud at the start, no issue after that. I really like this trail. Too bad it’s not used much in winter (loopers use the upper portion to gain access to the Snapper trail in winter). Large cairns mark the path in the alpine zone. I was able to see these fine without glasses and in reduced visibility. See notes above about dogs in the alpine zone.
Gorge Brook trail: well blazed in blue for all season travel. Most often used winter route. I’ve never been on this trail without snow so I was quite astounded at the plethora of rocks and roots. There is so much! But man, the footing is tedious. First time this summer I’ve been wanting snow… Could cover this distance in half the time in snowshoes!! Anyway, it was actively raining so plenty of mud and running water on trail. Nothing major, just going to have wet feet. 6 persons encountered today, all on this trail. All water crossings achievable on human made bridges.
Happy trails!! |
