Comments: Day 2 of 3: Started down Highwater Trail (from the junction with Moriah Brook) toward Black Angel at 6:45a. This stretch of trail is beautiful, and was largely left untouched due to its distance from the river. Only one spot (almost immediately) where it crosses the Wild River, the trail on either bank are directly across from one another, trust the worn path to the sandbar! Nothing except happy feet and clear navigation, right to the junction with the old remnants of the Spider Bridge. Black Angel is in good shape as well, with the exception of a few decent blowdowns over the miles with clear herd paths around them. The last half mile felt like the final two percent of a Windows update. Popped onto the AT and decided to hit Carter Dome for the sake of being so close, then headed across the Carter-Moriah ridge trying to stay ahead of forecasted thunderstorms. The descent of North Carter was a steep slippery challenge. Imp Shelter looks brand new, has two levels, and the view is killer. I’d stay there! Nice to see a silver lining for the nobo AT hikers after descending North Carter! Moriah Brook was a slippery mossy adventure up high, and as we worked our way down we found plenty of mud pits and beautiful waterfalls. Aside from one section where the navigation was a little confusing heading into a swampy area (two small rock cairns help), this was a very pleasant trail. Also, some major shoutouts to the trail maintainer, they deserves all of the honor for the efforts to keep this trail in the shape it’s in!
