Day 3 of 3: We packed up camp and got back to the Moriah Brook crossing of the Wild River. We found the water running a little higher from the overnight rain, and only got a few wet toes during the crossing. The empty campground is a little eery without anyone in it, and makes the woods feel even more remote. The Basin Trail leaving the campground is really cool, with (what seemed like) almost a quarter mile of bog bridging. The climb was pretty moderate, and we enjoyed the waterfalls along the way. At Rim Junction, we traded full packs for daypacks to head across the Basin Rim Trail for our “one more thing.” The climb past Ragged Jacket to the junction with the Mt. Meader Trail is decent, and a bit more rugged, offering great views of South Baldface. Our final stop was the viewpoint just past the summit of Mt. Meader, which had grown up some but still has a unique look at both Baldfaces, as well as the North Conway peaks. Trail was mostly dry, with a few slick rocks. We saw one person on trail all day! |
