| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the dirt surfaced summer lot for the Starr King trailhead. This is a bit tough to negotiate. I had to use 4 wheel drive this morning, but many cars and SUVs did fine working over the deep ditches. One fella we ran into said they got stuck. Once freed, this hiker elected to park in the snowmobile parking area across the street from the Starr King rd. It is a short distance to the trailhead from here. This lot is free, there is a kiosk, no privy. It is not plowed in winter. See my other posts about winter parking options. |

Route:
Out and back to Waumbek summit on Starr King Trail.
Starr King trail is well blazed in yellow for all season travel. Footbed simple to follow. Nice, wide trail. Post hurricane rains left the trail, obviously, wet and muddy. I did not take time to negotiate mud and just walked through it all. The worst mud being between Starr King summit and Waumbek summit. I guess it’s just part of it… Summit cairn on Waumbek in good shape. View point just past the summit on the Kilkenny Ridge trail is quickly growing in. Spring signed, flowing well. I noted it may be challenging to filter water without a scoop, though.
Lovely to have met you finally, buzza77!!! Good luck on your Grid project!!! |
