| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Small parking area on the road with room for a half dozen cars or so. Please pull head-in and don't parallel park so that as many people as possible can fit. I arrived at 5:30am and there was just one camper van there that seemed to be overnighting. The lot was mostly full when I returned around 9:15am. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |

| Recommended Equipment: |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Easily rock hopable or dry (scary!) |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I think that Carolyn's and Ted's trails were marked in yellow and Cliff Trail in blue. I don't recall if the connecting paths were marked or if there were any blowdowns. I didn't find the trails hard to follow but the signage could be improved. Some of the jcts were marked with small paper signed attached to trees that were faded and that you could no longer read; I think this was just at the jcts with the crossover trails. The dry season portion of Carolyn's Trail is very overgrown and should be trimmed back. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
A bit of scrambling on Cliff Trail could be too challenging for them, but I'm sure that some hiking dogs could do it. |

My apologies for a very delayed trip report. First hike of the day for some SNH redlining. My route: Ted's Trail --> Carolyn's Trail --> Dry Season portion of Carolyn's Trail --> OAB on Wet Season/Bypass portion of Carolyn's Trail --> Carolyn's Trail --> OAB on Lower Crossover --> Carolyn's Trail --> Cliff Walk --> Wapack Trail --> Cliff Walk --> Ted's Trail --> OAB on Upper Crossover --> Ted's Trail.
The Upper and Lower crossovers (names shown on Gaia) are the connecting paths named in the guidebook. There is another unnamed connecting path or two between the two shown on Gaia as well that are not signed and not needed for redlining. Though both needed paths were signed I think the signage was very faded. I also walked right by the Upper Crossover as I ascended Carolyn's Trail. Neither Ted nor Caorlyn's trails was excessively steep but both had some sections that at least felt steep given what a hot and crazy humid day this was, even in the morning. Cliff Trail was rougher as it was on ledge so there was some minor scrambling but not much. Note that I had to do the portion of Cliff Trail between Carolyn and Ted's trails twice for redlining. The 30 yd view spur on Cliff Trail is obvious. The section of Wapack Trail I was on is not too bad. The falls at the jct of Lower Crossover and Ted's Trail was bone dry and the Dry Season part of Carolyn's Trail has bog bridges but was actually relatively dry too. That being said you had there is brush overtop the trail and I had to duck under a ton of it so it should be trimmed back. It will especially be a pain if you are tall.
I don't recall ground conditions too well as it's been 10 days but I think that the trails were mostly dry with some deeper mud pits down low. Gaia had me at 7.8mi, roughly 1800ft of gain, 3.5hrs. |
