Finally conquered the Pemi Loop! Most portions of Lincoln Woods trail and Franconia Ridge trail were dry, though each had there portions of mud. Garfield Ridge trail had a lot of standing and running water on the trail, and large unavoidable sections of mud. Below Garfield Ridge campsite, there is a very steep section of the trail climbing up a waterfall. None of the rocks I noticed being too slippery, but I always recommend heightened caution on wet rocks, especially on steep slopes. Bondcliff trail between Bond and Bondcliff was dry, but there were wet sections below the summit of Bondcliff. Twinway between Guyot and South Twin also had several wet sections. Garfield Ridge trail was by far the toughest section of the entire hike, it took 7 hours to complete the full trail, most other trails were fairly easy. Osseo trail had a little mud on the higher elevations, but overall was in fairly decent condition. Due to how strenuous this hike is, I'm not sure if it matters which direction you do it. I did it counter-clockwise and worked out well, though I would recommend doing this hike over 3 days instead 2. 2 days definitely pushes physical limitations. Many of these trails received more rain today so there may be more mud than there was when I climbed up yesterday. |
