| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked my regular car outside the gate at the end of New Colony Rd. Capable vehicles (trucks and jeeps, ideally) can continue all the way up to the height-of-land at Mowglis Trail. Watch for one significant washout just above Lucky Number Seven Pond. |

Mowglis Trail now has a sign at its junction with Orange Cove Trail and the start of Hanging Rocks Spur also has a new sign. Thank you to you know who! Blazing on Mowglis Trail between Orange Cove and Elwell trails is a bit faded but the corridor is clear as a bell, whatever that means. Aren't bells opaque? |

The main reason for this revisit to Hanging Rocks was to check out the loop below the rocks, which has recently been recleared. Fun route! Some scrambling back up to the main outlook but nothing crazy. It's pretty cool to travel under the "hanging rocks"!
Returning to the top of Orange Cove Trail I crossed the clearing and headed for Catalouchee. A good herd path initially entered the woods but quickly disappeared in a sea of can't-see-your-feet hobblebush. Once past that, woods are lovely and open then get a little tighter and hobblebush-ey again near the top. There's no register at the high point but there is a tree with a big yellow X painted on it. The whack is fairly short but the climb is steep. I pretty much came back the same way, diverting a bit around some mucky areas. |
