Hiked into John Rand cabin for two days. Hiked the " dead end " trail to Sayre peak. The trail is not signed, maintained or blazed. It's also a bit grown over. It's a fun hike to go see the huge radio / Comm. tower at the end of the trail. The Al Merrill loop has good footing with nothing steep. It's a ski trail in the winter. The Ridge trail ( as well as Al Merrill ) has a few blowdowns. Some duck unders, go-arounds and climb overs. We only went up the ridge trail, at the Al Merrill jct, for about a half mile. The lower part of Ridge, Trap's Turnpike, is pretty flat and is a nice walk by the Baker River. |
