|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Saco River is spanned by a bridge. No other significant water crossings. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail in generally good condition.
One tree fall across the trail at about .5 miles uphill from the first ledge. It is about 2.5 to 3' above the surface. Not hard to get over.
There are a few trees that one can bang a head on. I conked my head on a cut tree at the edge of the trail below the first ledge. I was concentrating on footing in a rough rocky area and didn't see the cut tree.
There are tree boughs crowding the trail in a short section.
The bog bridges between Mt Webster and Mt Jackson are in various conditions from good to broken. However, the intact bridges served their purpose. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for dogs as long as they are comfortable with steep ledges. |

| Comments: |
I elected to take the Webster Cliff approach to Mt Jackson since I used the Webster-Jackson route last year. The Webster Cliff Trail has steep ledge sections mixed with some easy stretches. There are also ledges on the trail leading up to the summit of Mt Jackson. Lots of ledge overlooks into Crawford Notch. Usually there are great views from Mt Jackson toward Mt Washington. Today the wildfire smoke and clouds obscured the high peaks. The exposed ledges were mainly dry which helped the footing. The ledges in the woods were frequently wet so care is required for safe passage. Thankfully, the rain held off.
Many hikers were out today. Lots of AT thru hikers (mostly northbound). Some local hikers with most on the Webster-Jackson loop trip.
Saw no gray jays.
The bright red capsules of the Trillium were seen on the lower sections of the trail. Some goldenrod and asters in bloom. |
