Comments
Comments: I needed to right a wrong. The Moriah Brook Trail was mean to me last summer, and I needed to fix it so that other people would not suffer the same fate. The worst part is the 300-400 yards of bog.
My friend Snakebite is the trail adopter. We hiked up Stony Brook (the Wild River Road is still closed, which makes this harder) and then down MB. First we tag teamed a blowdown, and then we arrived at the bog. I brought my brand new pair of extendable hedge clippers, which were just the right tool to clear the grasses. Snakebite had loppers. After 2 hours it looked like a trail! There are still a few unavoidable muddy bits, but it is way better than it was! We found two logs and a boulder, hidden under the grasses, and these will make that section a little bit less of a mudfest. And then we found hidden treasure! An abandoned Fiskars self sheathing saw. It’s rusty but clearly others preceded us with trailwork days in this section!!
On my way back down Stony Brook I cleared two blowdowns.

I hiked out and back on Stony Brook and Moriah Brook with my friend Snakebite, who is the trail adopter for Moriah Brook. I had a turn around time of 1pm due to some Saturday evening shenanigans; he is still hard at work at this writing. We took a quick side trip to the first set of ledges on the CM trail but we didn’t get the normal beautiful views as the wildfire smoke is particularly bad today.
