Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Cook path could use some trimming and/or a few more blazes. The trail was a bit overgrown and hard to follow at times. Some blazes in the ice gulch were hard to see (faded orange, same color as the lichen), but it’s straightforward to keep following the gulch.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Ice gulch itself isn’t appropriate for dogs, but the approaches on Ice Gulch path and Cook Path could be a nice walk in the woods with a dog
Bugs
Bugs: Some came in the car for the ride home, but none on trail!

Comments
Comments: Cook Path and Boothman Spring cutoff are both closed due to logging between Randolph Hill rd and jimtown logging rd. At the junction with the logging rd, we took the logging road to the parking area for mt. crescent trail and road walked back to the ice gulch trailhead.

This was a nice change of pace from some of the more crowded summer trails — we didn’t see any other hikers and enjoyed the cooler weather in the gulch.

Sections of the gulch had pretty dry rock, but many rocks were a bit damp or slimy from lichen. There was light rain the night before, but I think these sections stay damp most of the time. Nothing impassable, but you should be comfortable with scrambling on damp rock. We enjoyed the wide variety of moss and mushrooms on the trail!
