Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, August 2, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The Glen Ellis parking area is still closed for construction. Vehicles parked beside route 16. I opted to park at AMC Pinkham Notch. At 7:15AM there were only a few spaces left in the large lot. This is typical of weekends with good weather.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No significant water crossings except at the beginning of Lost Pond that has a elevated wood walkway
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail has no obstructions. The only tree fall was about a foot off the ground and easy to walk over. The wood steps in the ledges are still secure. The bog bridges on both trails are in vary from good to bad but are effective in keeping the feet dry. Many of the bog bridges on the ridge are in disarray as they have been in recent years.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There were dogs on the trail. The dog must be comfortable with steep ledges. Not much water on the ridge.
Bugs
Bugs: Small flying insects in the open area by the ski lift.

Comments
Comments: Wildcat Ridge Trail is a steep and rough trail. There are some rock steps and wood steps to help with footing in some places. Nevertheless, there are some difficult scrambles requiring careful placement of feet and the use of handholds on the rocks or adjacent trees and roots. I would not recommend this route on a day with a forecast of rain. I would discourage taking someone inexperienced with hiking.
The difficult climb is rewarded with great views of Mt Washington's eastern ravines and many of the Presidential Range high peaks.
Wildcat D has an observation platform. Wildcat C has a small cairn. Wildcat A has a small cairn on a well-worn short side trail near the ledge with the view down to Carter Notch.
Many hikers out today including AT thru hikers going both north and south. Lots of day hikers that came up from Pinkham Notch, Glen Ellis, the ski trail, and Nineteen Mile Brook Trail.
