A few blowdowns and dying bog bridges but no big issues. 3-4 blowdowns on the descent to Dream Lake that we are annoying heights. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Mine had fun, lots of mud. There are some steep descents with jumps up/down on boulders and this particular route was a long day for him. A good bit of water available, but there was one stretch from the Hayes ascent to near Cascade Mountain that was a bit dry and we broke out the bowl. There is a ladder on Peabody Brook but it's more like stairs TBH. |
|
| Bugs: |
Minor issues once the bugspray sweated off. |

| Comments: |
Nice, rough trails outside of Gorham. A few SOBO and NOBO thru hikers were out with only one non-thru group seen near Hayes.
I really liked Peabody Brook Tr - the top part is on bog bridges alongside Dream Lake, the next part was next to a really nice brook, and the lower portion is like a highway. I did not find the "tricky" spot mentioned in the WMNF guide.
This was more challenging than expected and I bailed on Bald Cap Ledges and Peabody Falls as I'll be out in this area again. Additionally, my headphones were dead from the start, I forgot my water filter due to a pack change, and I lost two apples off a ledge when my dog jostled the food bag. Still a fun day in the woods. |
