Plenty of room in the lot off route 116. There is a small drainage ditch in the access road. Best to drive over this ditch slowly. My RAV4 had no difficulty. |

The three brook crossings on the Mt Kinsman Trail were easy to cross on rocks. The second crossing is below a small cascade. |

Trails in good condition. No obstructions.
There was some pink and green taping on the Mt Kinsman Trail that probably indicate some planned future trail work.
There was no white blaze on the Kinsman Ridge Trail at the junction with the North Kinsman outlook side trail. An AT thru hiker was walking down to the lower ledge thinking he was on the AT. |

The Kinsman Ridge Trail is a nice approach to Kinsman Ridge as the slopes are never very steep and the footing is generally good. There is some mud on the trail, but it isn't a hindrance.
The steep ledges on the Kinsman Ridge Trail on North Kinsman were dry today. This made for secure footing.
There are two outlook ledges just off the Kinsman Ridge to the south of North Kinsman. The lower ledge allows for a view straight down to Kinsman Pond that is not visible on the upper ledge.
I visited both knobs of South Kinsman. I prefer the sweeping views from the south knob marked by the large cairn with the throne seat.
Lots of hikers enjoying the great weather. AT thru and section hikers, overnight hikers, and day hikers. |
