| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked by the old log cabin on Cherry Mtn road and rode my bike a mile or so to the pond, but you can park by the pond too. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail |

| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
One small stream was encountered and stepped over. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Canister tree is leaning, soon it will be horizontal. It’s the biggest tree up there, but it’s uprooted. Not many other good choices. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
I’m not sure how a dog would take to the piles of blowdowns at the top. I did see bear droppings at the west summit, it was loaded with raspberries up there. |

| Bugs: |
Plenty of spiders |

| Comments: |
I started at the pond where you can aim your compass right at the west summit. A herd path starts close by, then fine open woods until nearing the west summit. This was the nicer summit in my opinion, it had one lookout towards the highland center, Willard, Willey, and more. I think I could see Bemis, Nancy, Anderson and Lowell too. Abundant red raspberries were a surprise this late in the season. Getting to the canister on the east peak wasn’t easy. Prepare to climb over a hundred blowdowns! (They’re small but numerous.) The slope is more gradual than the map shows and I thought I would miss it so I stayed high, investigating each bump and quickly seeing higher ground. The last sign-in was from November last year (Cookies). I replaced the pen and signed in, and had a slow but straight shot back to where I started. A fine day to be out. This hike was 4 miles round trip and took me 3.5 hours. |
