Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Kearsarge, NH
Trails
Trails: Lincoln Trail, Rollins Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Friday, August 30, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking for about 15-16 vehicles at trailhead on Kearsarge Valley Road -- if most of them park head-in, for which there's PLENTY of space. Sadly, the 8 vehicles in the lot when we arrived early afternoon yesterday were all parallel-parked, with a few feet of space between each, so there was room only for one more car to squeeze in.
Surface Conditions

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing of note.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two chain-sawable stepover blowdowns within the first 0.1 miles of Lincoln Trail after it turns west, into the woods, off of the gravel road (as one begins the hike to the summit). The first is about two feet off of the ground, so minor. The second is larger and about three feet off of the ground, a bit less minor.
Dog-Related Notes

Bugs
Bugs: Absolutely none yesterday; the breeze probably helped.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful late summer/early fall day yesterday on a super quiet approach to Kearsarge -- we saw just one person on it all day.

Much nice sunshine and cool breeze for most of the day. The summit was pretty quiet, as well; only a half dozen folks up top.

Plenty of early fall color, too -- some maples and even beech on Black Mountain, as well as red hobblebush everywhere on the trail. Loads of ripe blackberries on the re-vegetated section of the trail at the beginning, where logging took place a few years back. However, we ate them all, so there's none left.

Trail is very dry, so fast-moving, especially on some of the ledge-y sections higher up. Final scramble to the summit is bone dry, which helps. The bit of Rollins Trail that we used to go back down to avoid the scramble was dry, too.
