Peaks Shelburne Moriah Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Rattle River Trail, Kenduskeag Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, September 1, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Few open spots at 10. Lots of folks in here for the weekend so most cars were still there when we came out at dinner time.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easy hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: As a previous report indicated, Rattle River is fine, but Kenduskeag is starting to get grown in in spots. Also, while I’m not normally one to complain about bog bridges, there are a few spots where they are sinking into mud that is at least four feet deep (my hiking pole never hit bottom and it was literally all the way in).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Ours was the only one out today. The mud on Kenduskeag will quite literally swallow even large dogs completely. Care should be taken.
Bugs
Bugs: Some annoying gnats on the peak.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Some tents stakes were hanging in a bundle at the shelter.

Comments
Comments: Many of the bog bridges are very slick — think black ice slick — with the recent rain but it’s not always possible to simply not use them. So be careful. Pics and vid’s coming soon to Insta at quantum.moxie.
