| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The entirety of Five Summers could use new blazing. Many of the markings on the northern end of the trail are on rocks or under brush, and are old and faded. The 0.3-mi. footpath section to the ridge needs a hobblebush haircut. The sign at the bottom of this section has incorrect mileages to the Greenway and the lookout. The Greenway is in good shape. Noted a new sign ("East View") marking the side path to the east ledges at the lookout. |

I enjoy this approach to the lookout. It's on the longer side at eight miles round-trip but nearly the entire route, aside from the last half mile, is either flat or very gradual so the distance is very easy. The further away you get from the park, the wilder and more remote-feeling Five Summers becomes. It's also very quiet and I saw no one once I left the campsites behind.
Completely dry conditions with cooler, drier air that I wait all summer for. Glorious. The trees are still mostly green but hints of foliage color are beginning to appear. |
