Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Kinsman, South Kinsman, NH
Trails
Trails: Mt. Kinsman Trail, Kinsman Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, September 3, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No other cars in the lot off rte 116 at 8am, and only a few others at 4:40pm. That drainage ditch across the driveway into the lot, mentioned in other reports, is quite deep, and care must be taken. The southern edge of that ditch is easier to negotiate, but this should be done slowly.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Three, all a short way before the Bald Peak spur trail, and all were an easy rock hop, or more like simple walk-across on two of them. Water levels were very low.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in good shape, overall. There continues to be trail creep at the sides of the KRT going from the junction at the end of the Mt Kinsman trail up to the peak, where there are steep slabs to climb. More of the same on the descent from NK headed to SK, and the changes from the last trip up were notable. These places are a lot easier to ascend than to descend.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one, well-behaved, scouting the trail ahead of its master.
Bugs
Bugs: None. It was too chilly, and we're pretty much done with bug season.
