We took the Belknap Ridge Trail from Gunstock to Round Pond, and then Round Pond Trail back to Gunstock. All the trails were very dry. The Ridge Trail up to Mt Rowe is a steep gravelly road, the rest of hike except lower part of Round Pond Trail are on regular trails. It is very steep coming off Belknap, first with steep ledges, then a steep talus field. There are lots of intersections, but they are all well signed. We found the Lakes Region Conservation Trust Belknap Range Hiking Trails Map to be very useful. We almost did not go to Round Pond, We are glad we did. It was bigger than I expected and very peaceful. We saw 8 hikers and 2 mountain bikers. |
