Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked in the public lot off Smith Pond Road. Space for about 8; only car today.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Several log bridges, and step overs. But all were dry today.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails were in fabulous shape. All were well blazed in light blue. There was one large blow down that took 2 other trees down with it; all 3 are laying in the trail, but a herd path has formed around them. Couple of other smaller step overs.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cooper was happy to be on this easy to follow gradual trail. Since all water crossings were dry, extra water is needed for the thirsty pup. However, Coop really enjoyed cooling off in Half Mile pond at the end of the trails.

Comments
Comments: From the parking lot, walked past the kiosk to the blue blazed SPT. SPT goes through the woods joins the road at a location further down Smith Pond road. After walking a short section on the road, the road continues on to private property but the trail forks left to Smith Pond, or right to the HMPT. Half mile pond trail starts as an old woods road through fields, that transitions to a well marked trail going to a lookout and on to the pond. The trail ends at a fire pit at the end of the pond. We walked on lightly traveled paths around the north side of the pond then bushwhacked up and back to the summit, taking care to stick to the open woods better for pup travel.
