A very enjoyable journey across 3 great peaks today. I made this a 13 mile loop with Trio Ponds Road and Nash Stream Road. This would have been a great opportunity for a bike spot! I brought a friend who did well on the ambitious bushwhack for a non-hiker, but he had had enough hiking after 8.5 miles, so I being faster, offered to just run the final 4.5 miles of road (in 33 minutes) and came back with the car. The bushwhack was very straightforward terrain. There were extensive blowdown patches after W. Long, but it wasn’t terrible going. We saw one bull moose, and a duck at the pond. There are signs on both peaks, if you have tools you can rehang the W. Long sign, I wiggled it off a down tree and stuck it to the canister (which is also on a leaner.) To get back to the Percy trailhead we followed a generally NW bearing back to Trio Ponds road from Middle Long, then it is a 4 or 5 mile road walk, or hitchhike. |
