Bugs

Comments
Comments: The first mile is fairly typical White Mountain twisted roots, random rocks and limited avoidable mud, and then you get to practice your climbing skills. There are endless opportunities to take in the views and there was an undercast just off in the distance. It transitions fairly quickly from ‘this is fun’ to ‘wow, okay, pay attention to your hand holds.’ I wore 3/4 climbing gloves for this one as the rocks were sharp and steep, and I was super happy having them. The caps section is not terribly long, but you’ll know you are there when you see the somewhat vertical slabs that will be your queue to put the polls away. There is a lot of exposure time above treeline, so do your future self (and face) a favor and put on sunscreen. With Mt Washington always ‘right there’, you could hear and see the cog during the entire climb. The last impressive scramble to the top is just more (mostly) stable rocks. It’s a rock pile, but far kinder that Jewell. We took the quick loop from the summit and found it offered a similar distanced, yet more gentle decent than coming straight down. It also offered the different views that we would have otherwise missed. Moving time: 4 hrs 30 min.33/48
