Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Carter-Gibbs Trail has two large blowdowns south of the first water crossing of Dane Brook, one very shortly after and the other a bit further, where the trail veers left from the old woods road. Just before the final water crossing (after the climb up from the cascades), there is a large, rotten tree trunk of which rot and woodpeckers have removed the bottom half at the base -- it's upright and not a blowdown right now, but not for much longer. Elwell Trail has a new, medium-sized stepover softwood a quarter mile west of the Oregon Mountain Trail intersection, and also (still) has large blowdown just east of intersection with Back 80 Trail, but a work-around path brushed out a couple of months ago is getting use. Elwell Trail is brushy in the half mile before the intersection with the Mowglis Trail.

Comments
Comments: This 11-plus-mile loop is a favorite of ours -- we saw no one until day's end, and that was just one person, near the Mowglis Trail intersection. Some really nice color at higher elevation; lower elevations are a tad dull and brown from the recent drought.

We cleaned some deadfall, moved a couple of blowdowns, and did some minor brushing as we walked along.

Other than the aforementioned trail maintenance items to address, the trails are in good shape.

Relocated sections of Elwell Trail, from the past couple of years, are bedding in nicely.
