Comments
Comments: While east side of the Presidentials was in the clouds, west side was in the clear. Foliage views in that direction were nearing peak. Jefferson Notch Road is a pleasant road walk, allowing a different loop route over these peaks. The upper part of Caps Ridge is slow going with a number of scrambles. It is generally well marked with cairns, but there are a number of places where people have created dead end tracks going off the route, particularly around the first Cap. If in doubt, the route seems to go straight up rather than angling up. The ridge was in and out of the clouds (more out than in) and views were terrific. Ammonoosuc Ravine had more water on the ledges than I expected so descent was slippery and required extra care.
