| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked in small lot just to the south of the Daniel Webster trailhead near the bathroom facilities (running water with flush toilet). There is another small lot across from the Great Gulf Link trailhead at the dead end. Neither lot specifically designates the spots for hiker parking. I did not see any fee boxes or fee information. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Any unbridged brooks were minor and are easily crossed. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in good condition.
There are new bright blue blazes on the Daniel Webster Trail above tree line.
I cut up a fallen 6" diameter evergreen with many limbs that was blocking the Daniel Webster Trail.
A 1.5' diameter tree down across the Osgood trail about 2.5' - 3' feet above ground. Can be stepped over using rocks by the tree.
The alpine zone sign missing on the Daniel Webster Trail. The tree line warning sign on the Daniel Webster Trail has light yellow lettering on a white background. Appears to have been affected by weathering and/or sun exposure. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for dogs. The rough rocks may abrade paws. |
|
| Bugs: |
A few insects flying about. Not bothersome. |

| Comments: |
The trails were almost mud-free. The rocks were dry, so the footing was excellent. A few rocks were unstable on the Osgood Trail but not so bad as to cause any fall.
Great views of the Fall color in Pinkham Notch and the lower reaches of the Great Gulf from the alpine areas. Nice views of Mt Washington and the northern Presidentials.
A helicopter was making continuous runs from AMC Dodge Camp to Madison Spring hut delivering supplies suspended below a cable. Jet fighters were flying high overhead.
The only people I saw on the Daniel Webster Trail were two Dolly Copp campers walking the lower section of the trail (one from Minn and the other from CO).
Met two USFS volunteers from Conway on the summit. I met an Adirondack based hiker, a family from Westford MA, and a Quebec hiker in the alpine areas of Mt Madison. |
