| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Generally good shape, with some very impressive rock work on Lowe’s Path. Above tree line on Lowe’s Path there are several areas where hikers are walking next to the tread way, but no way to brush these in that I can see. Blazing on King Ravine a little hard to follow in places (see below). |

A very pleasant woods walk up to Mossy Fall. Challenging rock scrambles between there and the floor of the Ravine. Left my pack at Elevated/Subway junction and worked my way up the Subway. This could use some additional blazes at the start. Fortunately, I met a couple doing the same so we could split up and hunt around to find the correct route. Walked back down the Elevated to retrieve my pack, and then headed back up. Explored the Ice Cave Loop, but never found a clear way through. Returned to the main trail to find multiple dead end side tracks as blazes/route were not obvious in this area. The headwall was an almost continuous scramble and my time from Shortline to Airline was over book time (unusual for me), undoubtedly somewhat due to exploring the Subway, but also due to route finding challenges and the difficulty of the climb. Of note, this time of year the sun is directly in your face as you ascend in the morning, which seemed to make it somewhat harder to see cairns and blazes as I climbed. Also, blazes are a rusty orange red, not yellow in the Ravine.
Views from Adams were terrific; foliage is near peak. “Rock-whacked” over to Sam Adams from Lowe’s Path on the descent, starting below Thunderstorm Junction. There is an obvious spot where you can go up the rocks and avoid any alpine vegetation. Abigail Adams is a very short climb a little distance further down the trail. |
