Comments
Comments: What a great day on Carrigain. I went up The Captain and down Vose Spur. So many good viewpoints that I barely needed a compass. The maintained path got me very close to the base of The Captain, but I didn’t find much for herd paths the rest of the day. All three highpoints were easy to find. The trees overall weren’t as thick as I expected, but the footing was terrible everywhere, so that slowed my pace. Not a ton of blowdowns, just lots of rotten wood sinkholes. I missed the lower talus field on Vose but descended one off Carrigain with unique views. Views down to the pond from the Captain were great and I made it up to Carrigain summit in 1.5 hours, including lunch at the pond. The whole bushwhack was 4.5 miles and took over 5 hours. The rest was all easy flat miles - 17 or so miles, 4,400 feet and 9 hours for the day.
