Beautiful, brisk, windless day. Stashed bikes in woods at Garfield trailhead and started up Gale River at sunrise. Uneventful hike to Galehead. Found obvious, well-trodden herd path on GR East Peak. Great view ledge. Signed in to the register and the most recent page was filled with all-stars such as zporter, teal goat, and Steve Smith. Also someone named “Gandalf the Ghey”. One of the better trail names I’ve encountered. We headed to west peak and started out. Bushwhack from due north. I told Margaret to find a path to the top in as straight a line as possible and she got us there rather easily. Fun, easy whack to get the kiddo some practice off-trail. Less names in this register as expected. Graded summit spectacular as always. Saw many folks as we booked it down at top speed. Very pleasant 1.7 mile bike ride back to truck completed a really fun day. Rain started at 3pm JUST as we finished. Impeccable timing-pays off sometimes to go fast! |
