Everything is low at the moment. A few hops, and you're good. A couple of the submerged rocks were a tad greasy, so poles will be a help. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails are in fine shape. There's one blow-down at the edge of a water crossing, but it's easily managed. |

One glove, and fortunately, I hiked faster than its owner, making for a happy reunion. |

It was an audacious plan: avoid the crush of holiday weekend tourists by hiking on the day with crummy weather. And hey, it worked. The ground on the ridge appears to still be warm. Recent rains froze to the trees up high, and that ice broke off with the wind and was littered all around. It was like if the gods dumped a bucket of ice cubes everywhere. So technically, it was "icy" up there, but realistically, it was no more consequential than a dusting of snow. Which also happened while I was up there. Scenic views from the outlook were clipped by low cloud cover, but there was plenty of other stuff to look at nearer to me.
This was #8 for my grid. Those fall line trails are punishing, but the winter wonderland on the ridge was sublime.
Photos and a trip report on my blog, as always. Share and Enjoy! |
