| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I got the last spot in Lincoln Woods at 8:20 AM. It was a madhouse when I left the lot at 1:30. People probably would have paid me $20 for my spot when I was ready to leave. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
none |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Minor blowdowns and duck unders. The longest ladder and a few smaller ones were covered in ice but easy going up with careful steps. Coming down I'm glad I brought my micro spikes! The mud bogs starting above the last ladder were pretty sticky but clever jumping and root walking negated going in too deep (others weren't so fortunate). |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
A few peppy dogs heading up while I was descending that probably all loved the mud. |

| Bugs: |
none |

| Comments: |
This was a fantastic clear day about 32 degrees at 8:30 but by the time I reached the Flume summit it was in the low 60's. There were at least 50 people at the summit around 11 AM most coming up via Mt Liberty with a few stray masochists opting for the Flume Slide approach. Footing was good except for the icy ladders and muddy spots noted above but all the switchback rock steps were dry as was the summit approach and the summit ledges were sun-baked and had good grip. Lincoln Woods trail is fast & easy as is the first 1.5 miles of the Osseo trail. But once the switchbacks kick in (and there are a LOT of them) with their acute angles & large stepping stones it can become quite taxing. Descent was pretty straightforward with the ladders, roots and leaves breaking up the pace just a bit. Summit views were spectacular in all directions! |
