Another beautiful day above treeline! Trail was very wet today. There were small patches of snow in the woods starting around 4000’ and then ice on trail around 4200’ just below the Webster Cliff / CP trail junction; also a small amount of ice going up WC trail to Pierce. Although this ice was slick (especially in AM), it was a short enough stretch that with careful footing, you could manage without spikes if you wanted. Trail was very wet in all the usual places heading over to Eisenhower with some ice on the plank bridges, and a couple of patches of soft snow on the Mt Eisenhower Loop - all able to navigate without spikes with careful footing. Things are melting now, but at some point it will all freeze up again so even though they weren’t needed today, still good to have some beater spikes in the pack just in case. |
