| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Drove on the atv roads about 15 mph max in my truck. Black Strap is the road to take and it has a sign. All the roads are well signed by the snowmobile club. I got just southwest of the mountain before I saw a collapsed culvert, so I did a 3-point turn and parked there on the side. There was a new culvert sitting nearby. |

This mountain had a little bit of everything you encounter bushwhacking in these hills: overgrown skidder paths, various heights of dense logging regrowth, spectacular clear-cut views, 2 canisters, a large antennae, I spooked 2 deer on the ridge, they spooked me too. It was a longer one at 5.5 miles with over 1,300 feet of gain and took me 3 hours.
I went straight to the NW summit first, then changed direction about 90 degrees and followed a herd path to the SE summit and back through nice mossy woods, though there were many blowdowns to step over. I took a different overgrown road back down on the same bearing I took up, but a bit to the north, and passed by an amazing view of Umbagog lake, then the tall skinny antennae I missed on the way up, and more views to the west. I popped out on the road a little bit north of where I parked.
Three peaks down for the 500 today with Henry Hill this morning and Little Cambridge this afternoon, and those 2 were very quick hikes on skidder paths and overgrown logging roads with hardly any real bushwhacking compared to my adventure on Cambridge Black. |
