Every time I head up this trail, I swear it's the last time. I always seem to lose the trail due to a lack of paint, or very faded paint. There was a little bit of snow at the bottom of the chute but that's going to change today. I think I probably squeezed in the last day of the year to hike this route. Coming across Alpine (my favorite area in the Whites) I was walking into a stiff head wind; going down Lion's Head the cross winds out of the west were pushing me off balance a number of times and blowing my hiking pole uncontrollably like I've never experienced before. Today is supposed to be much, much worse above tree line. |
