Comments
Comments: Trails are in good shape. Probably the least amount of mud I've seen on this route for awhile! Bushwhacks generally easy to follow although the BP bushwhack has a lot of leaves down so need to pay attention in spots. The bees are still active on the Brutus BW despite the colder temps last week. The spot is now marked in both directions with two small strips of pink surveyors tape which we left in place for safety. The nest appears to be located in the bottom of a broken off, waist high birch stump on the R side of the path when you are heading up. The stump is in the direct sun so that is likely keeping them hanging on longer. We were a group of three. The bees did come out of the nest as we passed by, more by the time the third person was passing...but we were able to move through quickly and didn't stop until we were well past the spot. They did not follow us, no-one got stung. I imagine that it could be more of an issue though w/ a larger group passing by giving more time for additional bees to exit the nest. Will likely need a few more good hard frosts before they are gone.
