I left my bike at the left trailhead (Bennett Street) then drove to the east trailhead (Flat Mtn Pond Trail/Whiteface Rd Trailhead/intervale) to start the loop C-Cwise. Trail was generally covered in beach leaves. For the 10.3 mi I tried to jog as much as I could - the rocks were hidden under dry leaves so it was super-challenging to jog. I was able to jog perhaps half the entire distance... the rest I was super-careful to not roll my ankles. Still, I love this area and the water crossings. It is so remote I try to revisit it often - I don't think I'd been here in a few years (at least for Flat Mtn Pond Trail). Shelter was in good shape. Nice tent camping spots nearby. Super windy at times. Trail near the pond was super rough - so many ups and downs it was difficult to make good time. Didn't see anyone until 7+ miles in when I was descending a good distance from the shelter. Did I say I love this area? Bike ride back to start was not difficult. |
