| Water Crossing Notes: |
Maybe the easiest non-snow bridged crossing I've seen (video in link below) |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The one blow down Dexter mentioned but it is an easy stepover and adds character IMO. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Lots of dogs on LW trail...I try not to be judgy but unless your dog has a thin coat does it really need a fancy jacket? (A couple of naked labs but I think every other dog was dressed up...one that was the size of a large squirrel was being carried.). OK, I'm being judgy. |
|
| Bugs: |
Are ground hornets considered bugs? We will assume so. It seems the ground nest on Brutus Bushwhack has ended its reign of terror. The section is still marked by pink ribbons, but the flight path was empty coming in and out of the hole despite a few cautious stomps. Interestingly, the queen tends to be the lone survivor after Winter and will generally relocate each year. |

My 7th time on the Owl, and one of my favorite hikes. Started at 9am and other than a few overnighters heading towards LW didn't see anyone. Pretty cold and windy up on th e summit ridge but other than that wore just a shirt all day...glad to not be above treeline because the wind was howling up high but pretty still below 3500'. |
