What a joy to see the white fluffy stuff covering the trail and trees. No slippery leaves! The only leaves I saw on trail were wet and black and stuck to my spikes. I put spikes on a mile in because I love traction so as soon as they work - I'm putting them on. Up top it was a winter wonderland. I lost count of hikers, perhaps between 20 and 30 overall. But still plenty of solitude in the silent woods. Only a few gray jays to add squeaks and peeps to the quiet. Big views up there. Little wind but I was happy to put on the puffy jacket for a lunch break with a view. I've been up there years back but did not recall the bench so maybe that is sort of new. Some people were coming from Webster/Jackson but nobody was going from Pierce to Eisenhower I guess because that direction had zero footsteps in the sparkly powder snow. Some wet areas with water on trail but it was shallow and I stepped right onto it without concern. Overall good footing options and the light snow was packed by all the hikers, most of whom had spikes. |
