Comments
Comments: The Pine Bend Brook Trail up to the wilderness border (signed) has easy grades with a leaf covered pathway that crosses multiple small brooks. In the wilderness the trail steepens considerably with some wet mossy rocks that require care especially on descent. The trail eases for a short stretch near the junction with the Scaur Ridge Trail. The Pine Bend Brook Trail rises steeply on the northside of North Tripyramid with many well-worn subsidiary pathways to avoid steep ledges that were all moist surfaces today. The Mt Tripyramid Trail between North and Middle peaks is fairly easy going.
On descent, be sure to turn right across a small brook (dry today) at the foot of the brook valley rather than continuing straight down the valley. There is a yellow blaze on the tree to mark the trail. This turn is a bit more difficult to detect with the leaves on the trail.
There are limited views on this hike. There is a very short side trail off North Peak which permits a view to Mt Washington in the distance. There are two viewpoints on Middle peak; one to the west (Mt Tecumseh and Mt Osceola) and the other to the east to Mt Chocorua and Mt Passaconaway.
I hiked with Michael from Chester NH and his dog Blue. A woman who hiked up North Slide said it was wet and slippery.
