Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One crossing that can sometimes be tricky on Benton trail. I had no trouble today. Many times I crossed or walked in the stream bed on the bushwhack, some iced rocks to avoid at higher elevation, but most were dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Water bars up high had been raked it looked like. Down in the hardwoods I didn’t notice the waterbars but there were thick leaves covering the trail.

Comments
Comments: There were mountain bikers on the trail today, and hunters down the road. I heard gunshots.

I bushwhacked up Faraway Ravine to climb the slide today. Things were drier than I expected. The mountain looked frosty on the drive over around 11:30, but it was only rime ice on the tree tops. I alternated between the stream bed and good woods/ old logging road beside it, with good footing everywhere except one short blowdown jungle-gym section. The valley was very enjoyable to follow with the frosty summit in sight, it reminded me of Ammo ravine trail on Washington. The slide itself was steep but had good handholds to climb up and the woods at the top were lovely (for about 10 minutes, then not so lovely for the last 15 minutes, which was some pretty gnarly krumholz). No ripped clothes or scratches though. I had the summit to myself for a short while. It was chilly up there! Then some people showed up around 3:00 and I boogied on down the Benton trail, making it to my truck by 4:15.
