| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
1st car in Ammo lot at 6:45am. Rode to Jackson/Webster TH via Clinton Rd, mostly downhill and the ride down from Ammo to Clinton Rd was the coldest I was all day...the short uphill sections on Clinton Rd were welcome. |

Chained my bike to.a tree at Webster/Jackson Trailhead. Nice climb up to Jackson, fallen leaves are not bad down low and there was (mostly) easily avoidable ice patches above 3000'. Final scramble at the top was dry. Most ice of the day was between Jackson and Pierce but never enough for me to even consider spikes as there were enough dry rocks to navigate the icy sections. It won't take much precipitation for this stretch to get very icy. Once above treeline on Eisenhower there was very little ice for the rest of the day...all bare ground and rocks. Breezy on the summit of Ike but not much wind the rest of the day. A bit of a bummer that they opened the auto road so there were a few people wandering around but no summit sign line when I got there! (One formed as I was leaving) After rock hopping from Washington to the treeline on Jewell, I really appreciated walking on dirt again, and the descent on Jewell in the late afternoon sunlight is very nice. Got to my car about 10 minutes before sunset. |
