A perfect little afternoon hike for the time I had, this took me 2 hours and was 5 miles with 1,200 feet of climbing roughly. I walked the excellent 4x4 road to the power lines, then it becomes an unmaintained skidder path almost right to the cliff wall. There are skid paths branching off, but with the wide open woods it was clear where to go without needing any navigation tools, both up and down. When I reached the cliffs, I almost attempted a really sketchy climb up, then decided to keep going around to find a safer route, to the North, and had to go through some tight saplings but found a good place to scramble up. After the summit, I went south on the ridge to the saddle, and found another safe place to get back down to the skidder path. I didn’t feel the need to traverse the South half of the ridge. I had enjoyed the views from the high point, but wanted to get away from the traffic noise from route 3. The woods on the East of the ridge were nice and quiet, and views were great with the leaves down. |
