Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Table Mountain, Big Attitash Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Attitash Trail, Moat Mountain Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, November 9, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Bear Notch Rd. is still open, despite what Google Maps may tell you, and it is in excellent condition. We parked one car at Attitash Trailhead just off Bear Notch Rd., where there was one other car (and room for at least 2 more), and one car at the Diana's Baths parking area, which had more but still plenty of available spaces.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Many of the streambeds were dry or had minimal water flow. Only one crossing (I think it was the crossing of Lucy Brook on Moat Mtn. Trail) had a substantial amount of water, and even there it was so low that rock hopping was not a challenge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: We had no trouble following the trails. Attitash Trail has several 1-ft.-diameter blowdowns obstructing the trail, creating a herd path in some places - these are on both sides of Table Mountain. It would be nice to have bog bridges across the bog near the summit of Big Attitash Mountain.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a dog on Table Mtn. (and many at Diana's Baths). The entire route seems doable by dogs. The NH 52WAV guide by Ken McGray suggests to "Use caution with pets and small children" at the cliffs on the main ledges on Table Mtn.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: There was a 1/2 inch dusting of snow on most of Attitash Trail except for the eastern end - probably it was from snow the night before. It was not enough to fully hide a single leaf, and not enough for traction or winter boots to be helpful. It did compound the problem with slippery leaves, however, especially when descending the steep eastern side of Table Mtn.

The only place with "significant mud" was the bog in the clearing immediately to the west of the summit of Big Attitash Mtn. I imagine that it is a lot drier now than it would be at other times, but even now it was difficult to walk across it without sinking a few inches in it in places.

We saw no one between Table Mtn. and Diana's Baths.

The cascades at Diana's Baths and alongside Moat Mountain Trail 2.2 mi west of the northern trailhead are attractive as usual.
